Introduction of Classes of Team Fortress 2 - Which One to Choose?

Team Fortress 2 is a class-based first-person shooter game developed by Valve Corporation, and the sequel to Team Fortress Classic. There are two playable teams, RED and BLU, which you can enter and complete objectives in different game modes. You can choose nine classes which are Scout, Medic, Demoman, Soldier, Heavy, Sniper, Spy, Pyro, and Engineer.

All classes in TF2 have a distinctive purpose. These nine classes are divided into three main roles - offensive (Scout, Soldier, Pyro), defensive (Demoman, Heavy, Engineer) and supportive (Medic, Sniper, Spy). If you are a new player, you should know each class well so as to choose the most suitable one. Here is the introduction of these classes that will help you decide on the suitable class and better enjoy the game.

The Scout

Carrying a Scattergun, a Pistol, and a Bat, the Scout is an ideal class for aggressive fighting and flanking. The Scout is a great class for quick "hit-and-run" tactics that can either sap away enemies' health or kill them outright due to his ability to get in, do damage, and dash away before even being noticed. However, the Scout is tied with the Engineer, Sniper and Spy for having the lowest health of any class, leaving him vulnerable when he is on the front line.

The Soldier

This American patriot is equipped with a rocket launcher, which he is able to jump high with by aiming at the ground. The Soldier is a slow but high health classes, having the second most health and being the second slowest of the bunch. The soldier is the best class to kill sentry guns with from long range. Be wary of Pyro's when using this class, since they can reflect any projectile with their flamethrower's "airblast".

The Pyro

Pyro is a class that carries a deadly Flamethrower in Team Fortress 2. It specializes in close quarters combat with a flamethrower, a shotgun and a fire axe. He also has a blast of compressed air which will cost 20 units of ammo and will reflect projectiles and push players away. Pyro is also able to operate both as an offensive class and a defensive class due to its effective combination with Engineers for defence.

The Demoman

The Demoman has a high area of effect and burst potential with his primary/secondary weapons, the grenade/sticky bomb launcher. The Demoman has average health and is strong against attackers. Sticky bombs referred as Stickies, are able to rest on walls and are detonated when you want to. His strength is slightly weaker than a Soldier, but a lot more powerful than most classes due to his firepower.

The Heavy

The Heavy is the high-power assault class of the mercenaries. It has got a shotgun and his fists to finish you off with, he's the slowest classes in the game but has the most health. The only thing to keep in mind is that he needs to spin up his minigun first before being able to fire.

The Engineer

The Engineer is a very flexible class. While his primary goal is to defend the main base, he also features limited offensive capabilities. Taking the sentry as his main weapon, he specializes in building. He builds teleporters, sentry guns, and dispensers, one per engineer. Sentry guns have devastating and consistent damage.

The Medic

The Medic is the premiere support class, healing his teammates, which gives his team more time in combat rather than going to get health pickups/resupply cabinet. Without this hero, you won't come very far. The Medic is meant to keep all alive, including you. When playing as the medic you have an extra bar to fill up, the ubercharge. Depending on what medigun you use it has different functions.

The Sniper

The Sniper is a tough and ready sharpshooter. The Sniper's main role on the battlefield is to stick to the high places and pick off the enemy team (especially the dangerous ones). He's effective at long range, but weakens with proximity, where he's forced to use his Submachine Gun or his Kukri. As a result, the Sniper tends to perch on higher grounds or in hard-to-see places, where he can easily.

The Spy

The Spy is probably the single hardest but strongest class in TF2. The spy is able to become invisible for a short amount of time but can regain it's charge instantly by picking up ammo boxes. Also the spies main damage, backstabs, oh boy are these annoying. When facing someone's back with your knife equipped allows you to backstab them, always granting you a kill. The Spy is also equipped with a revolver, a sapper, and a disguise kit. The revolver working as expected. The sapper can sap the enemies' Engineer's buildings, causing them not to work for a period of time and then being destroyed. The sapper is instant and has no cooldown to use. The disguise kit allows you to disguise as an enemy and ally, appearing so for the enemy team.
